THE Russian Government is planning to ban foul language from the internet under child protection laws.

State Duma Deputy Yelena Mizulina plans to amend a law called “On the Protection of Children”, reports Russian news website Pravda.ru.

Under the plan, posts on social networks, forums and websites that contain swear words would be blocked if not removed within 24 hours.

Moscow Regional Bar Association chairman Associate Professor Sergei Smirnov told Pravda.ru the proposal was “relevant and timely”.

“Obscene language offends both children and adults,” he said.

“A ban on its use is not an infringement of human rights. This is a direction towards a civilised lifestyle. If we do not use foul language in real life, then why do we use it on the internet?”
